Hey everyone, I'm a 33 year old female, living in New York City. I have had Psoriasis for 27 years. Two years ago out of desperation I went to see an acupuncturist who put me on a strict diet to combat my skin problems. The diet looked like this; No wheat, cows milk dairy, sugar, alcohol, caffeine. I ate lots of fresh vegetables, fruit, and rice. I took bitter Chinese herbs to combat the "blood heat" (this is a concept from Traditional Chinese Medicine) and went to acupuncture regularly. My skin improved dramatically. The diet was difficult at times but I compare it to jumping into cold water if you are on fire, that if you are suffering enough you will do anything escape that pain. For topical relief, I took Apple Cider Vinegar baths (one bottle per tub) or Epsom Salt baths (one big container per bath) regularly. Add to that regimen my go-to tropicals of Dovonex and Clobetasol and lots of drinking water and sleep and I had things better under control. I went through a major detox from my diet, I felt like I had the flu for two weeks and slept 10 or 12 hours a night during that time, which clearly indicated to me I was in need of a detox. I stayed on my diet for a year and a half until I went to Italy to meet family and then fell off the wagon majorly. A few months have gone by and now I realize it's time to go back on the diet. I have bumps all over although no big plaque outbreaks it is still blanketing my body. Somehow through my years suffering from this disease, I have come to treat it through my instincts and my own research and experience because so often I know more than the doctors, and I have learned to trust myself. Today I feel like my body is toxic from sugar and wheat, it makes me feel itchy and swollen, and I know the coffee is not good for me because of the acidity. I have decided to buy a juicer on the way home and do a juice fast with cool greens and apples and other veggies and fruits in the coming week because I believe eating unprocessed food is the closest thing we have to a cure, that and being happy. I am telling you all this because I feel like I have some info to share with my fellow psoriasis suffers that could possibly help you and also because it helps me to write it down, to process and focus on what I need to accomplish. I will report back on my juice fast, let you know how I am doing, if I am feeling better, and looking better. xoxo Sarah

Oh My good ness I can't thank you enough. I just recently started getting myself educated apparently celiac /gluten sensitive ties in with this hell of a disease. I stopped taking everything the shots have now damaged my kidneys and god knows i have a medcine cabinet of oitments. And of course every doc claims they will cure t. I will tell you detoxing seems to tie into this a lot. I started doing a detx cleaser sine my intestines do not work right. I've been told because of this internal problem it is coming iut on my skin. This is hell. Since I stopped taking everything it now has spread up and down my legs and on myy lower back and even on my hands and fingers. Lovely HUH..... but thanks for your insight. I feel like someone understands. J
Jeannie, that sounds very painful! I totally get it. Okay, so in an emergency like this I'd say get tons of sleep, drink tons of water, do the detox diet, and meditate and wait for it to pass, because it will get better. Take your vitamins and some salt baths, some apple cider vinegar baths. I'm sending you good vibes!! Just so you know I was having a bad break out the past few weeks and I finally realized I was drinking coffee (fell off the wagon there) and so I quit again and two days in the redness is already subsiding. There is an interesting blog if you google psoriasis and coffee you can find a page called dave's page and he talks about all the same issues we I talked about earlier, coffee and wheat and cheese being a big problem for us. I couldn't believe it, somebody with the same conclusions as me. Maybe it would help you. http://www.psorsite.com/docs/terry.html
Good luck!!!
