I have been recently diagnosed with psoriasis, it is especially bad on my feet. I have been given differents meds since it started in Iraq. My feet are the worst and the bottom of my right foot is very tender and I cannot walk sometimes. I am on Methotrexate since yesterday, as my foot is still swollen and hurt severely. As I am in th Navy, I have to go to the Doctors now at least twice week now for the pain which seems nothing is working, it is un-bearable and up setting as I feel useless now to my family and very down about why me, why now?? I can deal with the other parts as my legs and torso but the feet thing is very painful and distracting from everyday life!! Any suggestions for my feet, beside creams and meds that seem not to work for the most part. Hope the meds kick in soon or i will be really up-set.

Sorry to hear about your psoriasis. Give methotrexate some time...let's hope it does the trick. There are also ultraviolet light boxes specifically for your feet, and other options as well. Some more info from our website is here:

Treating the feet can be tough, no doubt about it. But persistence usually pays off in finding a treatment that works for you.

Good luck and thanks for your service to our country.

Thank you for the support. As I am stationed in Whidbey Island, Wa. I have to drive about two hours to Bremerton Naval Hospital and my Dermotologist Doctor there says as of now the Ultraviolet Treatment is not reccomended at this time because of the distance. But yes am giving the meds time to work. Thanks for the website. God Bless!!

hi! i feel your pain :) i have mild bouts on my feet, but my hands are affected often. i get pustular ps. outbreaks on the palms of my hands, sometimes resulting in missed days of work b/c i can't hold the wheel to drive the car! :) granted the two types are different and treated differently, i basically wanted to let you know to not give up!!! i know how you feel when you want to walk to the mailbox and you have to hold your breath at every step. as i mentioned, i've been unable to drive, open a water bottle, and when it's super bad- hold a pen! it's very frustrating and it can get you d.o.w.n... but you're not alone and please don't feel useless!!! unfortunately, it needs time and trial and error. having said allllllll that... have you tried a paraphin wax treatment? this wont cure it but it does offer a level of comfort. they sell the heaters and wax at walmart, etc.
good luck and hang in there!!

I have it bad on both feet (and previously hands). I did experience a level of comfort with a triamcinalone and saran wrap at night. Every night before I go to sleep I put the ointment on my feet, wrap them in saran wrap and cover them with socks. The saran wrap technique forces the ointment to be absorbed into your skin rather than sitting on top of it. I also get cortizone shots every 6 months. They are painful but for about 2 months you feel an unbelievable amount of relief. Much luck to you =)

and with the hands....walmart has some gloves (the name of them slips my head right now)....they are form fitting....and they work wonderful....i would put the steriod ointment on my hands...cover with saran wrap and then put those gloves on...that way i could still do things with my hands without the meds leaking or the wrap falling off....just a helpful hit there....

Michael, I have had success with Masada Salts from the Dead Sea . It will sting at first but soak your feet or your whole body in warm water and salts as directed. Then after about 20 minutes while feet are still slightly wet add your cream and then cotton socks. If you can't find Masada Salts try any salts that you can find at the drug store.

My knees were cracking and bleeding and i was in alot of pain, when i first got it the salt water it stung like crazy, but after a bit it started to feel okay, after soaking a bit i tried to gently rub off any dead skin, then i got out and put on my ointment and a cotton robe. I did this for a week every night and it helped immensely!

On another note, I would like to thank you for your time and service in Iraq...I really appreciate all you do for me and our country!

Update!!!
My Psoriasis, and the bacterium Infection caused me o be Hospitalized on the 26 Feb as released on the 6th March. I had a very severe case of Erythrodermic psoriasis, bacteremia psuedomonas spp, and other effects which caused me to get a high fever and my Lymphnodes expand to golf ball sizes. The Doctors got my fever and bacteria Infection under control and my psoriasis also under control. Am now on convalescent leave for another two weeks. But am feeling better and getting better daily, still on alot of sterotopic creams and anti-biotic meds too. Thank you all for your understanding and help through a trying time. Will post updates again soon.

Michael :)
