I have been on Humira for about a year and was about 98% clear then it stopped, just like that. I had a virus infection and then the a problem with the needle not activating so probably off it for about a month. I've started the injections again but thus far nothing. Question, has anyone had this medication stop working like this? See derm mid Oct.

it never worked for me to begin with but i was on enbrel for five years and all of sudden it stopped! its something about our bodies building anitbodies so our bodys become immune to the meds sometimes it can be a year remission or 5...it just depends everybody is different! its no fun though ive taken almost every biologic there is to take and im starting to run out of options! hope you find another med to clear you soon!
Thanks Shanika. It is really heartbreaking isn't it after being clear for soooo... long? I kinda took it for granted that this would work forever. I was on Enbrel a few years as well and then it stopped but don't remember it being as bad as this. I haven't had it in my scalp for years and now it's starting again.......Oh boy I can hardly wait till it gets full blown!
awe! i know i was only 14 when i started taking enbrel & i honestly thought it would work forever! but im thankful it worked through my high school years atleast! have you ever tried remicade? im on it now and it has cleared me up pretty fast!i love it!

No, Humira was the last but am sure I will go on another one after I see the doctor, oh boy. New one coming out in 2009, has to be approved by FDS, called Stelara, it's supposed to be injected every 4 months and is already approved in Europe and Canada. Abbott, who puts out Humira is also working on something new. Glad your HS years were clear, that's major.

I have been on Enbral and am now on Humira. Enbral stopped working after 2 years with little clearing, then I started Humira and was on it for about 4 months with much better results, then for insurance reasons, I had to stop for 4 months and that was so horrible, came back real bad! Then I started Humira again and have been on it for 5 months now and it cleared me up like it did the first time, but it hasn't cleared any more! Also, some places it cleared before are not clear now. So, I don't know! I am also going to my Derm next month and I am going to ask about being put on Stelera, it "sounds" amazing....
Stelera wont' be available for a while I was told by my Derm. and when it is it will be very expensive, even with insurance. Abbott who puts out Humira will be out soon as well and it may be more affordable. My doctors have put me back on Enbrel. He said that once you stop taking Humira it doesn't work very well and to just throw the last injection I had away. (gave it to someone who has arthritis and uses it). Will start after blood tests etc. My skin in now a mess!! I am not happy....
Asked doctor about Remicad but he said it was to much of a "pain in the ass" and put me back on Enbrel. Haven't started yet, have to do blood tests, get permission from insurance and wait till doctor approves blood work..............he said four weeks, by that time it should be covering me completely!

Oh wow....no offence but...it is ok to look for a new derm that will work for you not against you....I shopped around for derms for a while...finally getting put in the hospital with coverage being at 95% and finding my blessing of a derm...he is wonderful...I was carried in the hospital...I couldnt see...could walk...couldnt deal with the pain and itch any longer...within four days of meeting my wonderful derm I WALKED...yes....walked!!!!! out of the hospital...I love him...I owe him my life.....so I say shop around....and for the record...im on remicade and it is NOT a pain in the ass...it is actually the easiest medication I have ever been on...I go every 4-6 weeks to the hospital for a few hours...get and iv....and wait for the meds to go in...i get all my emails done...editing my photography.. all my calls and everything i need to do done there...without kids yelling mommy do this or so and so hit me or whatever...it is actually nice to have an excus to get out of the house for a few hours where all i have to do is whatever i want to do while my meds go in....so.....no...it is anything and everything but a pain in the ass....what i found to be a pain in the ass was having to give myself a shot two times a week..i hate shots so i could never give them to myself...so i had to load up three small kids and take time out of our day to go to my moms house where she would give me a shot....it ended up taken anywhere form an hour to two hours.....I love remicade......hope this gives you a little hope.....need a shoulder to cry on or someone to understand just give me a shout...i am a fluffy gal with fluffy shoulders....lol...

Just heard that the Stelera has been approved. it was approved in July according to an article I received by my brother in CA.
Yes, Humira just "stopped working" for me. For a year I had great results and cleared completely, then the psoriasis started coming back here and there. The last two months it has come back full force.

My doctor tells me that sometimes this happens with biologics. They just stop working.

She is switching me to Enbrel. I don't know what I'll do if that doesn't work or if it does and someday "stops" working.
Arlene,
Thanks for your reply. I am waiting to hear from the doctor, had a lot of blood tests. Hope to go on Stelera but don'd know if they have it yet. I had been on Ebrel for a long time and it did really well although not as wells as Humira. And then.......it just stopped working. The rebound was nothing like the Humira though. I have it now in my scalp and big patches all over. Hope the Enbrel works for you but try Stelara!!!
