I started Humira and that's the only thing that has helped. Don't handle paper and don't soak in a hot tub. An old dermatologist told me not to wash my hands for 3 days. He said that is the only way they would ever get better short of a biologic. Well since I can't stay home and not "touch stuff" that wasn't doable. So I am now on Humira and I have seen remarkable improvement in 3 weeks. It's not pleasant. It hurts like heck, but just for a minute. I have had it on my hands and ankles for years and this is the only thing that is even remotely working. They also have patient assistance if you don't have insurance. I do have great insurance and my co-pay is $5.00 a month with co-pay assistance.
Thank God someone answered my post!! Thank you!!! Is Humira a topical? How would you keep your hands clean if you didn't wash them for 3 days? Did the dermo tell you to put on rubber gloves to brush your teeth or whatever? Did the dermo mention cleansing with mineral oil and then wiping it off? Have you ever tried script Protopic? If so, your results? With additional ointment consisting of Salicyclic Acid compounded with Aquaphor? If so, your results? What about food? Anything that YOU think may aggrevate your p? Thank you so much for responding to my post!!!

Humira is a biologic, it's a shot. You need to see a dermatologist asap. As for the " old Derm" He said simply "quit washing your hands". I work in a bank and he just looked at my hands and said it. I've tried every prescription (topical) my derm ran out of them to give me. I've also been on the biologic Stelara.... uh didn't work for me. Humira is the only thing that has worked for me so far. I wouldn't put salicylclic acid on my hands, no way.. but again, that's just me... It burns. I've used aquaphor, nothing helped... I hate to be the bearer of this news, but you really need to see a derm, in the meantime, use vaseline for moisture and try not to scratch... Impossible I know. I also take benadryl at night so I don't scratch at night... It helps a little..

Ps... google Humira or "biologics for psoriasis" and you will see the options. I also recommend staying away from the "nightshade" vegetables, potatos, tomatoes, eggplant etc... It seems to make it worse, at least for me. Also to answer about keeping your hands clean????? I don't know, I just can't go that long without washing my hands.... but if I stayed home and didn't have to work, I would give it a try... Yes, the non-latex rubber gloves would prob be a good idea as well as washing with a little mineral oil if needed. Ask your derm if you have any questions... best of luck and let me know how it's going.. I'm thinkin about you as I know the agony of having it on the palms of your hands.
Deana, "nightshade" vegetables? Have never heard nightshade before?

I hope you have the best of care... I also find holding paper, touching paper, hot laundry from the dryer, all need to be avoided if possible. Your hands and feet make psoriasis disabling. Allow others to help you, wear gloves to clean ALL THE TIME, get enough rest, calm stress and get some sun... http://www.barefootscureamerica.com/needhelp.htm I read his book and I am going to try some of his methods. I can't believe that God would give us the sun to kill us... I guess it all makes sense.
Anyway, let me know how your journey goes and I'll be following you... D
Thank you so much Deana for your concern! This is all so very new to me. I worked at a bank as well and handled volumns of money. Not good! I finally had to quit.
