Using auto pens versus pre-filled syringes for Humera/Enbrel

My doctor has recently convinced me to switch to pre-filled syringes for Enbrel rather than using the auto-injector pens. She says it is less painful if you do it yourself with the pre-filled syringe.

Has anybody tried the pre-filled syringe and did it work better? I am kind of hesitant because I figure that with the pen all I had to do was push a button, but with the syringes I will have to actually stick the needle under my skin.

I was on Enbrel for 5 years..When I first started on it I had to mix my own meds up in the syringe...then went to the pre filled ones...I choose not to take the Humera for a few reasons one of them being I hated the auto inject thing...the Enbrel was very easy to use as a prefilled thing...my mother and I are very close so I was always at her house so she would give me my Enbrel (I was to chicken to give it to myself)...but when I moved a bit further away from her I found it a chore to get my shots and then would get off my routine...then the med stopped working completely for me....so I say give it a try...it is just a little pinch...have a friend do it if you don't think you can make yourself...then that gives you a reason to have a friend over for a few mins two times a week...have a cup of coffee or some cookies or something and have gossip time...lol .....let us know how things are going...and welcome to the site!!!!!
I make the doc give me the VIALS instead of the enbrel prefilled syringes.... The needle on the pre filled is larger and I feel like it hurt more....The vials you mix the med then inject with a much smaller needle.
Your doctor is right, I used auto filled syringes for years, I hated filling up those syringes, prefilled is so much more practical.
I tried the auto-injectors for Enbrel and the pain was INTENSE to say the very least. It was already painful enough from the pre-filled syringe but the auto-injector does the whole injection in just 15 seconds and for me, that much medicine going into my subcutaneous fat is uncomfortable just from the sheer volume of it, let alone the horrible sting. I've been curious to know if others find the auto-injectors less painful so I'll be interested to see the replies you get. Good luck!!!
Jen I found places where I could inject without the pain, dear someone should talk to you, When I had pain injecting I just backed out, however the sting goes away. The med is worth it. Tell me wher your injecting

I have the pre-filled syringes. Never had the auto-injectors. The pre-filled burn something awful. I almost felt like too much was going in and my skin was ready to burst. Doing them myself, I wanted to pull out but the cost of them kept me pushing:) I had the vials that Stephanie spoke of. Those didn't hurt as bad. Maybe it was the fact that I mixed them myself. I tried once to have my daughter help me but that scared the bajeezus out of me. Good luck!!!
Well to update here, I got my pre-filled syringes and I have to say that the first one took me a few minutes before I actually stuck the needle in. But I do see that it can be much less painful than the auto-injector pen.

I just took my time to actually push all the medication in. Everytime it started to burn too much I just stopped pushing for a few seconds. Takes me a minute or two to get it all in, but I'd rather have that then the "big sting" all at once.

I'd really like to know just where those sites are that aren't so painful. So far I have been using the front of my thighs. I know you can use your abdomen too, but haven't tried it yet.
