Hey everyone, I'm a 33 year old female, living in New York City. I have had Psoriasis for 27 years. Two years ago out of desperation I went to see an acupuncturist who put me on a strict diet to combat my skin problems. The diet looked like this; No wheat, cows milk dairy (goat's milk is okay) , sugar, alcohol, caffeine. I ate lots of fresh vegetables, fruit, and rice. I took bitter Chinese herbs to combat the "blood heat" (this is a concept from Traditional Chinese Medicine) and went to acupuncture regularly. My skin improved dramatically. The diet was difficult at times but I compare it to jumping into cold water if you are on fire, that if you are suffering enough you will do anything escape that pain. For topical relief, I took Apple Cider Vinegar baths (one bottle per tub) or Epsom Salt baths (one big container per bath) regularly. Add to that regimen my go-to tropicals of Dovonex and Clobetasol and lots of drinking water and extra sleep and I had things better under control than ever before. I went through a major detox from my new diet, I felt like I had the flu for two weeks and slept 10 or 12 hours a night during that time, which clearly indicated to me I was in need of a detox. I stayed on my diet for a year and a half until I went to Italy to meet family and then fell off the wagon majorly. A few months have gone by and now I realize it's time to go back on the diet. I have outbreaks all over now although no big plaque outbreaks it still blankets my body. Through my years suffering from this disease, I have come to treat it through my instincts and my own research and experience because so often I know more than the doctors, and I have learned to trust myself. Today I feel like my body is toxic from sugar and wheat, it makes me feel itchy and swollen, and I know the coffee is not good for me because of the acidity. I have decided to buy a juicer on the way home and do a juice fast with cool greens and apples and other veggies and fruits in the coming week because I believe eating unprocessed food is the closest thing we have to a cure, that and being happy. I am telling you all this because I feel like I have some info to share with my fellow psoriasis suffers that could possibly help and also because it helps me to write it down, to process and focus on what I need to accomplish. I will report back on my juice fast, let you know how I am doing, if I am feeling better, and looking better. xoxo Sarah
